It's involuntary. It's like that weird knee jerk reaction when you sneeze. But whatever if I really gave a f... then I wouldn't post this crap. This whole house thing is such a huge undertaking and I really need to get more stuff done. We're all crowded in with all my crap still in boxes and it's been so long since anyone painted or anything it is truly depressing. SO here is some after's. I have more I do but will post them later.

don't pay attention to the rainbow sheets - let's just say i need a laundry day desperately. But to reference this to the "before's" this is the last set of befores that were just posted. This is the room with the burnt carpet.

you can see the far wall in this picture hasn't been painted yet. We're waiting for the roof to be repaired before I can finish painting.
I need to take better pictures of the floor and stuff. I will do that tonight because the floor came out awesome!

more befores

so here is some more befores...
in these few pictures you can tell the amount of crap that we took out of the rooms and what kind of shape they were in...

that photo only shows a really small part of it - there was shit piled up every where...

and there was weird crap all over the floors, the carpet was burnt in some areas...

and this is actually after we had already, well my brother because it was his mess, cleaned out like 5-6 contractor bags FULL of stuff. I wish I had took some before it was cleaned out, it is so hard to imagine now because it looked like something out of a movie. There was ripped sheets and dirty clothes, dog poop, human and dog urine stained carpet, a full size bed, like 4 dressers filled with clothes and papers etc. Well you will be able to get an idea from the next set of photos but here are these...

that is a picture of the west facing wall where there were shelves that were hung sometime in the 70's...

this the floor and wall color in Mo's closet - I have no idea when that closet was last painted - maybe in the 40's? Not sure but the color was kind of cool but too muted.

This is to give an idea of what shape the floor was like under the carpet that was in the room - actually under the carpet was linoleum in the shape of like an area rug that I guess was the fashion in the 40's-50's and then they painted around the linoleum. Fun. But I don't think the linoleum was glued down (thank God!) because it came up really easy - again wish I got that on camera but in my defense it's hard to do that when you're frantically cleaning and painting and chasing a 2 year old! But back to the story at hand, under the linoleum we found newspapers in tact like archived even a bit from 1950! So cool! Even the comics! We've got them pressed in cardboard right now waiting on me to bring them to get framed in some fashion. It may take a while!

okay this is the mantle in Mo's room - I have no idea what happened to it but the corner was kind of worn away where the mantle shelf (I have no idea what the correct word is for that) meets the wall. Paul diligently plastered it over and over again and sanded it to make it look all nice and pretty. You can see it in process here its the patch of white in that area...

this is a picture of a bloodspot from the ceiling...lets just say eewwww...

the beginning

this is the beginning. i have recently moved back into my father's house. ah, but this is a good thing for many reasons one being a necessity for each other. my dad is super cool and so is his house. he grew up in it, i grew up in it and now my daughter will grow up in it. but i digress, i shall start from the very beginning...
sometime around 1939 my grandparents, peter and mary petrillo, purchased our house and 40 some acres for a mere $6k I am told (or round about - I get conflicting amounts from different relatives) none the less - the amount is mind boggling in terms of today's $4 a gallon of gas prices.
at that time the house had no inside plumbing outside of a well pump in the kitchen and i am half sure it had no electric. my grandparents were currently living in the city of newburgh and decided to move to the country, i believe that my grandfather wanted to start a farm. they also owned a restaurant in the city which i want to say they supplied with the bounty from the farm but i am not a 100% on that. i believe that the house was vacant before they moved here and had to install plumbing (the only running water in the house was a well pump in the kitchen) and electric. my dad remembers running outside in the night to use the outhouse and i actually remember the outhouse in the back yard. they didn't knock it down! weird.
anyway that's how the house came to be petrillo's farm but even further back - the house was originally built as an inn and was called Maple Lawn. there is a rock in the front yard that on it is inscribed the names of the builders of the house along with the year 1847.
i have pictures of some of these things, like the original postcard for the inn, and the inscription on the rock that i'll post later.
my family and i have embarked upon renovating some of the house - it's been up to date on a lot of things but some hasn't so we're working on it piece by piece and finding interesting things along the way! this being my first post i will leave it at that until i can get the photos uploaded. until then Ciao!
